Community Values and Appreciation of Moreton Bay
Project Aims and OutcomesProtecting the diverse values of Moreton Bay and ensuring these values are recognised as an international treasure requires that community members understand and treasure Moreton Bay’s ecological and cultural values, and take action to protect these values for future generations. A critical first step is identifying how community members appreciate Moreton Bay.
This project will assess the degree to which individuals in the wider community understand and appreciate the ecological and cultural heritage of Moreton Bay, and to what degree are they willing to act to protect these values? Core outputs of the project will be a report benchmarking community engagement with Moreton Bay natural and cultural heritage. These insights will be used to create guidelines and tools for community engagement and communication. |
Method
The project will involve three key stages:
1. Building partnerships with Traditional Owners and key stakeholders, and identifying partner needs and priorities for subsequent stages.
2. We will quantify understanding and appreciation of ecological and cultural heritage using large-scale social surveys in representative samples of SEQ residents.
3. To delve into more detail about how diverse communities view ecological and cultural heritage of Moreton Bay, we will conduct a series of focus groups. These will explore how values of Moreton Bay resonate with communities and identify ways to connect Moreton Bay futures with personal values.
